To our swimming club

Hamilton Baths Amateur Swimming Club was founded in 1912 and is now based in Hamilton Water Palace, Almada Street, Hamilton. The club has a membership of over 150 with ages ranging from 6 to over 70. The Water Palace facilities include a 25m pool, a flume, rapids and outdoor lagoon together with a health club and gym. It is operated by South Lanarkshire Council.

Contact info@hamiltonbaths.co.uk for general enquiries.

Our Aims

The Club's aim is to train and coach swimmers, of all abilities, so that they can reach their full potential as competitive swimmers. The club is therefore engaged regularly in galas and competitions throughout west central Scotland, and sometimes further afield.

Latest Update Training Cancellation

Would all swimmers please be aware that training has been cancelled on Wednesday Evening 29th October and Thursday Morning 30th October.  All other training is as normal.  If you have any questions please speak with your Coach.

Latest Update South Lanarkshire Schools Swimming Championships

The warm up on Wednesday 29 October will be 5.45pm and the competition will begin at 6.30pm
The programme is busy so all swimmers need to register before 5.30pm. Anyone who does not register on the night will be withdrawn. The registration desk is normally just outside the changing area at Larkhall pool.

Scottish Schools Finals
These will take place on 31 January in Aberdeen. Except for the oldest age-group there will be approximately 20 places available each event.
Swimmers will be asked at the South Lanarkshire Schools event to nominate themselves for their events for January. You will not be entered automatically as in the past because of the distance and cost to your family to take you to Aberdeen.

Remember you are swimming for your school, not Hamilton Baths. You can, however, wear your club cap as we are always delighted that you are proud of your club.

Born 2002 and earlier 4 individual events of which at least one must be a 200m or a 400m event.

From the top 6 performances in each age group, 3 swimmers names will be submitted for consideration for the SCOTTISH SCHOOLS CHAMPIONSHIPS provided they have met the qualifying time.

Congratulations to Kirsty Griffiths and Ellie Forsyth

Who have been selected for the District Regional Programme (DRP) which is part of the Scottish National Squads Programme Selection.

How do you get on that?

You have to have the correct Mindset  , thats a positive attitude to your sport, dedication to your training, working hard on your technique (including your turns) and most of all when you get to competition being able to take all the hard knocks as well as the wins, learning from every race.

Download the document and see what you would need to do. The times get tougher every year so this is just a guide at the moment. Remember  , its not just about the times you do.

The DRP document can be found under Gala > Documents

Mathew Fenwick

All the committee and club members would like to wish Mathew Fenwick good luck this week as he heads down to the British Gas ASA National Championships in Sheffield. Mathew who achieved his qualification time at the Scottish National age group championships in June will be Hamilton Baths sole representative. Well done Mathew and we will all be routing for you.

A Tribute to Elenor Gordon (May 1934 – July 2014)

Homepage Image

Life Member , Friend and most accomplished swimmer of Hamilton Baths ASC.

In 1950 at the age of 16 , Elenor was the first ever Scottish woman to win a Gold Medal at the Empire Games. Her win in the 220 yards Breaststroke also makes her Scotland's youngest ever Gold medallist.

In the 1952 Olympic Games held in Helsinki, Elenor was the only British Swimmer to win a medal, coming home with a Bronze. However , this was a controversial race as Butterfly was included in the final alongside Breaststroke ; this was a new style and faster than Breaststroke, however Elenor held her nerve and came 3rd overall

Lifetime Achievements

Olympic Games

British Empire and Commonwealth Games

Bronze 1952 Helsinki, Finland 200m Breaststroke

Gold 1950 Auckland, NZ 220yd Breaststroke
Gold 1954 Vancouver, Canada 220yd Breaststroke
Gold 1954 Vancouver, Canada 3x110yd Medley
Bronze 1950 Auckland, NZ 3x110yd Medley

Elenor didn't stop there! She and her husband , Ken McKay , went on to win many medals across the world at Masters level. Elenor has been an inspiration to all our swimmers , past and present and she has shown us all how hard work and dedication can lead to success.

Our thought and prayers are with Ken and his family at this very sad time. We have not only lost a life member of the club but a dear friend.

Ryan Anderson swims 5 miles for Sports Relief

Homepage Image

On Sunday 23rd March, Ryan Anderson from B squad,  set out to swim an incredible 5 miles to raise funds for Sport Relief.   Ryan hoped to raise £1000 to help Sport Relief continue their amazing work.  Ryan completed his first mile in only 28 minutes and continued at a steady pace of 30 minutes per mile.  Ryan, who had injured his shoulder only 2 days previously began to experience pain from his shoulder at length 260 but being a Hamilton Baths swimmer he continued regardless.  Ryan met his target of 321 lengths in an astonishing 2 hours and 48 minutes, and even managed to sprint the final 50 metres.

Ryan has so far raised £1150 and this is still continuing to rise. Both Ryan and his family would like to thank everyone at Hamilton Baths for their generosity.  You can still donate at Ryan's Sport Relief page below

On behalf of everyone at Hamilton Baths A.S.C. we would like to congratulate Ryan on his fantastic achievments.

Above is a picture of Ryan before he started his gruelling swim.

Hamilton Baths AGM

A reminder to all parents that Hamilton Baths ASC AGM will take place on Monday 20th January at 7.30pm in the Palace Grounds (main building).  We warmly welcome newcomers to the meeting.

This year in particular, we have several vacated key positions and as a Club we cannot function without these critical roles being filled.    We encourage anyone interested to come along and find out how the club is run.   If you are keen in taking up a post, please have a chat with Philip Griffiths before the meeting. NO experience is necessary to fill these roles and you will be shadowed with a current committee member. We look forward to seeing many new faces.

Overall champion is a separate achievement and not awarded soley from club championship events.  It is calculated as follows:  PBs achieved from meets, club championships and time trials held during the year from 1st November to 31 October recorded on our Hyytek database.  GB points are used to calculate the winner based on time achieved for the distance/event and by swimmers age.  The overall age group winners are awarded to the highest GB points for all the events in each age category.   It is important therefore that swimmers enter a broad number of distances and strokes in meets throughout the year to maximise their points.  If you have any questions let me know Marion

2013 Club Championships

Just to point out to all swimmers.   Overall Champion is a separate achievement and not awarded solely from club championship events.  If you want to win overall champ you need to compete in different strokes and distances in meets during year to get those PBs and points in all events.  I will post a list of events by age on a separate file.

Overall Champion  is calculated as follows:

PBs achieved from meets, club championships, time trials etc during the year from November 2012 to November 2013 are recorded on our Hytek database and overall winner is calculated using GB points.   Points are allocated by event/distance for the PB time achieved and for the swimmer's age. It is important therefore that swimmers enter a broad number of events in meets throughout the year to maximise their points.  Newcomers are not included in overall winners as they have not been in the club a full year.

If you have any questions let me know. Marion
